For details of allpublications, research and articles, normal bibliographic rules apply.
Publicationsinvolving collaboration with influential academics and/or published in majorpeer review journals are very useful to the application process. Distinguishbetween work published, submitted/accepted or under review.
Administrative experience
It is useful toinclude responsibilities within the department for specific lecture courses,degree schemes or groups of students, and any involvement in admissions (forexample open days), producing university prospectuses, etc. Be specific aboutyour role in examining, tutorial work and exam invigilation, etc.
(Optional –relevant only to those seeking lecturing positions or applying to teaching-led institutions.)
It can be usefulto subdivide teaching into seminar and lecture experience and provide brief details.Other subheadings, such as tutorial and supervisory experience, can also beincluded.

A good indicatorof your potential. Keep relevant and current.
Other relevant qualifications
Normallycertificated skills, for example, IT competency, languages, etc.
Personal interests/hobbies
(Optional – viewsdiffer. Some academic departments like to see it included, others have no preference.)
Provide the name,academic relationship and contact details of three referees. It is usual foryour dissertation or PhD supervisor to be included. Carefully consider theothers – can they comment on a particular aspect of your research interests oryour teaching experience (for example, PhD external examiner or a co-author)?It is often useful to have referees from different institutions. Keep yourreferees informed about what you are applying for and give them a copy of yourCV.

(1)准备个人简历时请简明扼要,书写规范;
(2)简历是国外教授审阅和批准与自己合作的访问学者的唯一依据,请在填写简历时实事求是地表现自己的现状;如有不实所造成的后果由本人负责;
(3)填写学术著作或者论文时,请注意美国和澳大利亚在表现文献时的差异,或按国际惯例填写,避免误解;

【建议】医学生出国留学之简历书写的要素及参考模板(个人经验总结)&[精华]

*本文介绍的出国申请简历书写的要点普遍适用于各类申请(Ph.D, 博士后,美国住院医申请,访问学者等)。*以我个人的简历为参考的模板在六楼出国十年,MBA申请和就读/实习及毕业后找工作的经历,可能让我比出国做科研考board的童鞋在最初有更多的机会思考自己的简历,积累了很多经验通过和商学院的老师校友探讨如何写出真实丰满的简历;后来又有更多的机会帮身边人改各类简历,有MBA的学弟学妹,有国内的同学申请美国公派留学的,有家人申请美国住院医program的,有朋友申请公司职位的;再后来在招聘中看到过申请者良莠不齐的简历,很多应聘者因为对简历的不重视连第一轮的面试机会都拿不到。回想自己当年申请出国的时候,在太傻上找了个模板就以为万事大吉了,直到在商学院申请的时候,才真正开始意识到简历的意义。所以特别想用自己的经验和大家分享一下一份好简历的几个要素。1. 其实简历是关于你自己的一份小传,所以在着笔之前,需要花一定的时间审视自己,梳理头绪,试着深入剖析自己,回顾过去的几十年,有哪些milestone,假设大方向可以分成医学院学习,博士学习,临床工作,那在每一个category下面会有哪些highlights, accomplishments. 这个过程中思考的越清晰透彻,在下面的应用中越容易。2. when you think through what accomplishments/highlights are under each category, the next question is how to list/present them (以下几点尤为重要)每一点都要表达一个完整的故事,而不是单纯的罗列事实,举一个我见过的写的欠缺的简历,申请人介绍自己的某一段科研经历的时候,有一点是这样写的 "collected blood samples for assays",这样的信息对于招聘者来说是毫无意义的。所谓完整的故事,就是在写每一个点的时候都尽量让这句话能够表达“STAR" story,即简单扼要涵盖Situation, Task, Action, and Results四个方面。这其中以action and results尤为重要,since these will demonstrate your roles, responsibilities, capabilities, and the impact your work generates.这里要强调一下“results",我见过太多的简历只写你做了这个做了那个,可是impact或者是意义在哪里,比如:还用上面的例子,"collected blood samples for assays....."后面就可以接leading to two publications in peer-reviewed journals, or contributing to grant/fund approval。切记你所做的产生的意义是最重要的,也是招聘人需要看到的。再举一个例子,在列举honor/award的时候,有很多人就简单的说我得了这个奖,可招聘人如何知道这是一个什么样的奖项呢,如果你可以加几个字说明,这是一个全国的竞赛,参赛人有多少,你是one out of 300, 意义就不同了。另外很重要的一点是如何排列你做过的projects, or achievements, 记住write in a way of demonstrating your personal and professional growth。For example:if you were engaged in three projects over PhD study, and plan to use three bullet points to introduce your experiences, then the bottom point may be focusing on learning techniques and developing research skills, demonstrating you the next point need to show your professional growth over the time by possibly focusing on your independent/critical thinking, re-defining/streamlini lastly, the top point could show your teaming and leading skills/capabilities. 我如果招人,会很看重这点,因为这考察申请者很多方面,logic, self-reflection, critical thinking, etc.3.
关于soft skills。当我们看申请者简历的的时候,一方面是看你的硬件,即是否具备所申请的职位所要求的technical skills;但另一方面也要看你的软件, 所谓的软件包含很广,personality, learning attitude, interpersonal communication skills, teaming and leading capabilities, etc. 可能在申请科研职位,尤其是entry level position,对于软件的要求会略弱一些,毕竟老板希望招的人能来了立刻进入角色开始干活;但对于稍高的职位或是公司的职位,soft skills的体现是非常重要的,whether you will be a good match to the team很重要。很多时候如果你硬件差一点,but possessing positive learning spirit, self-motivated,可能我们更会看重你的potential, 而给你机会。thus, in resume, it is essential to demonstrate such critical soft skills as you see fit, either incorporate to your STAR story or list separately with several bullet points.当然一份出色的简历,除了具备上述要素外,还有很多小的细节要注意(主要以英文简历为例):自己的名字后面要带上学位, 比如 Yi Chen, M.D., Ph.D语法错误是一定要避免的尽量不要用空洞的副词,比如:effectively completed, actively engaged. 要用事实说明如何effectively completely, 可以说project completed 3 months ahead of proposed deadline在开篇可以有一个high level summary section,言简意赅的介绍自己的technical, soft skills, qualifications, etc.每一个category下面,尽量用3 - 4 个bullet points,最好不要多于四个bullet points的句式要保持一直,如果用动词起始,则都用动词,时态也要保持一致不同的学校医院对格式会有不同的要求,在申请前做好due diligence学会customize your resume to meet different requirements. 比如申请PhD,或是博士后职位,要了解老板的科研方向兴趣是哪方面,相应的调整简历上侧重点如果就读的大学或医院,或导师很牛,可以加以说明还有很重要的一点,可能和简历的书写并不是直接相关,但算是做人的基本吧,就是懂得感恩,无论在与申请的老板,秘书,任何人交流中(邮件或电话或面试)要始终保持感恩的心态,remember to send "thank you" note after interviews, remember to send greetings at key festivals。其实无论能力高下,职位高低,学会做人总是根本。今天暂时就想到这些,有遗漏的,日后再补充。希望对大家有帮助。

因为我一直觉得在申请中,简历的书写和面试是相对关键的环节,所以根据自己的经验比较费心思写了这篇和另一篇面试技巧,其实这俩篇相较我写的另外俩篇关于出国途径的帖子,我个人觉得更实用,因为出国途径只是一时,而简历的书写和面试的技巧却是需要我们常备的,但貌似大家对出国途径的帖子更感兴趣。我想也可能我应该换种方式来介绍简历书写,所以下面以我个人简历为例,仅供参考,具体的细节要点请参见一楼的详细说明。<font style="color:#. Name, M.D., PhD (学位一定要加上)address (如果是人在国内申请,这个可以省去)tel, email (联系方式)2. Summary (看个人喜好,有的人喜欢在进入主题前有个summary statement)举例:Demonstrated expertise in ......... and exceptional knowledge and understanding of ........... Dynamic professional with extensive work experience in ............<font style="color:#. Education (大多还是习惯于把这个放在工作经验前,对于有工作经验的,侧重点主要在工作经验上;而工作经验少的,可能就要在education中多些笔墨;顺序是先介绍最近的学历和经历)举例:*
PEKING UNION MEDICAL COLLEGE (学校名称要黑体字), Beijing, ChinaMD (8-year curriculum) (斜体字,如果是七年或八年制,要写上), July xxxx (毕业时间). Four time recipient of xxxx Scholarship for the highest GPA. Selected xxxx of Student Union (奖学金,学生活动,各类比赛都可以简要说明)<font style="color:#. Experience (看个人喜好,有的人喜欢在这个大标题下再分成科研经验,临床经验,再把soft skills (interpersonal communication skills, leadership skills)也分一个部分写)举例:(下面的例子和我在一楼提到的一些关键点是对应的,比如你列出来的例子要体现你的成长,从优化一个实验步骤,到一个人自己设计实验,到带头合作项目,再到专利申请,这里面融合了你在实验技巧方面的成长,也有你在交流团队合作等方面的成长;另外一点就是上面提到的你的所做所起到的作用,即impact,比如你优化了一个实验步骤起到了什么作用,减少了2/3的成本又没有影响结果。在每一个点最后,一定都要有个结论,就是作用)2xxx – 2xxx UNIVERSITY OF xxxxxxx (黑体字), Oxford, UK

Additional Information这里面可以包括几块,honors/awards, publications, personal interests个人兴趣这一块,我们一般不太重视,但其实对于老外来说,他们还挺看这块的,所以写的时候别太糊弄。对于有些同学有在国外交换或是工作的经历,如果在之前的几项中没提到,在这里也可以写,international work experience, 对于有绿卡或是一些国家永居身份的在这里可以强调你的work authorization.基本的几大块就是这样,具体的内容请参看我在一楼详细说明的要点,我想把一楼的要点和六楼的例子结合起来,就比较完整了。

看到楼主分享了那么多自己的经验,真的挺感动的,人人都有迷茫的时候,这样的帖子就无疑相当于黑夜中的明灯,让我们不那么磕磕绊绊的一步步摸索,前进着…………想问楼楼一些问题:我明年硕士毕业,现在有意申请去德国攻读PhD,发给国外老师的时候要连简历一起附上推荐信,这样成功率会大一点对吧。本来想附上Research Proposal的,可是针对一个老师写一封的话要查阅好多文献,太花时间了。总之现在找导师还是很迷茫的,觉得没有头绪,建议海投吗?这样老板之间如果知道的话会不会不大好?1, 我个人建议非常有针对性地选出和你硕士课题相关的实验室和老板申请2,找准要联系的实验室后,就可以准备给老板写一封敲门信。这封信主要达到三个目的:第一,推销自己,课题的相关性/发表文章(这点很重要,要多些笔墨),及自己可以快速融入团队产生价值的优势。我们常常关心对方可以给我们提供什么,但其实换位思考,我们最需要让对方明确的是我们的价值体现在哪,我们能给申请的实验室,能给老板带来什么;第二,体现你对申请实验室的了解,对课题的了解,对老板的了解与仰慕,及迫切成为他们一员的渴望;第三,询问是否有位置,具体时间3,我个人不建议在第一份邮件里附带简历或推荐信,如果对方表示兴趣,可以在后续的邮件中附上这些
