问：佛教认为存在地狱，有些人在上师加持下亲眼见到了地狱，可是不一定人人都有这个缘分。我听说在因明当中，通过推导可以证明地狱存在，请上师开示这方面的道理。索达吉堪布答：地狱不是凡夫肉眼的对境，如果没有佛教的基础，不一定马上能用理论推导出来。不过，地狱确实是存在的。在佛教中，许多大德以神通游历过地狱，昨天有人还送了我一本某大德写的《地狱游记》。关于六道轮回，凡夫的肉眼只可以看见人道、旁生道，而天道、修罗道、饿鬼道、地狱道则无法触及，只能依靠佛经的描述来了知。佛陀在《阿含经》、《地藏经》等经典中，对地狱的状况就有详细宣说。若想以因明证成地狱的存在，首先要成立佛陀为量士夫。如果证成了这一点，便可推知佛的语言没有虚妄成分，是真实不虚的，这样一来，就能证明地狱存在是真理了。所以，整个论证是一环扣一环的。如果一个人没有佛教基础，通过几句话是没办法向他解释清楚的。就像在古时候，人们对北美洲完全不了解，也没有相关的地理知识，要用几句话证明北美洲存在，这也是有困难的。——清华大学职业经理训练中心问答
